2010 Ranch Camp Schedule
We are excited to present our 5 weeks of summer Ranch Camp sessions. We are only offering 10 spots for each week of camp, so be sure to act promptly as these spots will most likely fill up soon. The camp will run from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM each day.?
Hunter Week
June 21 - 24, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday
Students will learn the expectations of competing in the hunter show ring. We will start from the very beginning of the process, traveling, grooming and braiding, warm-ups, arrival and horse care at the shows. They will practice getting their horses to perform as a suitable hunter mount, and practice improving their own equitation. Students will practice flat and over fences classes, show ring etiquette, and learn the expectations of the judge.
Eventing Week
June 28 - July 2, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
Campers will learn and work hard to improve all three disciplines used in the three-day events: dressage, stadium jumping, and cross country jumping. They will develop an understanding as to what makes each of these disciplines a vital part of the horse and rider training. They will learn what each section of the event is testing, the rules of each phase, and how to improve upon their scores. During the week, students will learn proper turn-out for each phase (horse grooming and rider’s attire.) They will also practice walking various stadium and cross-country courses in order to strategize for their rides.
Rodeo Speed Event
July 5 - July 8, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday
Campers will conduct an in-depth exploration of all aspects of pole bending, barrel racing, and goat tying. Riders will learn the breakdown and step-by-step process of the different patterns for each event. More advanced riders will practice balance, moving the horse off the leg, controlling each section of the horse with natural aids, and perfecting turns, control, and pace. As they progress throughout the week, campers will improve upon their skill and ultimately their times for each of these events in preparation for our local Teton Barrel Racing Association and Rodeos held in town.
Teton County Fair / English Week
July 19 - July 22, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday
Students will be able to participate in schooling classes in order to prepare for the challenge of our County Fair. They will learn proper turn out for horse and rider, what each class is questioning of the horse and rider, and how to improve their placement in the ribbons. Practice will include flat and over fences preparation. This week is a great introduction for first-time competitors. This week is also close and a more laid back setting for more experienced competitors to polish themselves and their horse and be more detail-oriented.
Teton County Fair / Western Week
July 26 - July 29, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday
Students will go over the various classes offered during the western riding weekend at the County Fair. The classes that students will learn, practice, and begin to perfect their rides include: trail class, western pleasure, working ranch horse, showmanship and halter classes, and western equitation. Students will again learn proper turn out for horse and rider based on the standards for each of the different classes.
